Community Agreements are aspirations, or a collective vision, for how we want to be in community together. We will offer ourselves and others grace when mistakes are made.

We will not allow actions or speech rooted in racism, white supremacy, abelsim, ageism, transphobia, or any other oppressive system.

We will not comment on others’ bodies or appearances.

We will ask for and receive consent before making any physical touch.

We will respect others’ identities, including pronouns and names. We will not make assumptions of anyone’s gender, immigration status, abilities, etc.

We will speak from our own experience (using “I” statements.)

We will take care of ourselves before, during, and after class. We can express needs as they arise.

We will share with the group as we wish, but can also keep things private. We will not disclose what is shared in this space.

We will meet each other where we are. Our authentic selves are welcome here.

We will practice these agreements to the best of our ability. We acknowledge everyone comes from a different history, capacity, and social location.

What happens if conflict or harm occurs in this community?

When possible, we will practice working through challenges directly with the person(s) involved.

One place to start is: Ouch/Oops

Ouch, my feelings were hurt when you __.”

Oops, I’m sorry I hurt your feelings. I won’t __ again.”

If you need support managing a situation, let the teacher know (verbally after class or by contacting them directly). Alternatively, you can contact Sangeeta, the founder of The Practice Coalition at sangeeta@thepracticecoalition.org.
